BilboFiend has a very fun article about their experience at today’s Divergent Casting Calls! According to Athmosphere Casting, there were over 1,500 fans that showed up for a chance to be in the Divergent movie! Here is what the folks over at BilboFiend took away from their experience:
The line wrapped around the adjacent lot and then some. Shivering in the Chicago cold, hopeful extras chatted about past experiences, the book and what they hoped to be cast as in terms of Factions. There were people there from sixteen years old (the youngest you could be to attend the open call) to a man who was standing behind us and was surely in his late 50′s. They were all excited.

Everyone was ready to get inside and get going. We were told to bring a candid photo with our personal information, and they were moving the line along pretty quickly, since we were able to get inside within about an hour and a half of arriving. If you haven’t been to an open casting call before, BiblioFiends, it really is a lot of waiting. Make friends in line and talk about the source material. You never know who you can end up talking to!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t take pictures once we got into the casting area, but you can see what pictures the production crew took on the Atmosphere Casting Facebook page. We were led up a set of stairs into a large room, where even more people were huddled over applications we had to fill out. Personal information, physical descriptions and special skills were all requested. Anybody who had military or stage combat training was corralled into a separate area and even put into a separate line, presumably to pull them away for Dauntless casting. The same went for those with outstanding hair colors or visible tattoos once they had shed their winter clothing.
Once our numbers were called, we got in yet another line and they collected our information, asking questions such as “Are you able to cut and dye your hair?” or “Would you be willing to wear contacts?” and other information like that. After that, we were sent to get our pictures taken in front of a white screen, holding our respective numbers.
And with the flash of a camera, we were registered extras! According to Atmosphere Casting’s Facebook, over 1,200 people showed up!
Fittings start mid-February and shooting starts in April, so with any luck, we’ll hear back!
